Sonic The Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone Drumming

Posted by Marcos on September 5, 2009

Great Scott! This was pretty awesome when I came across it the other night. Had to post this for great justice. It’s a nice cover and it greatly reminds me of the Sonic series on the Sega I beat durring the summer. I never beat them when I was younger, and I had some extra time here and there to give the 4 games a whirl. I appreciate the series a lot more now that I have beaten them. :D

Final Fantasy 7 – Boss Battle Drumming

Final Fantasy 7 Boss Battle

I love Final Fantasy music and some of the games, sadly I can’t say the same for them all. Final Fantasy had some of the more catchier stuff than I’ve heard from the others. Loved FF8’s and FF9’s soundtrack, but my ears go out to FF7 from the series. Music student I know had mentioned that a theory professor played the fairy theme from Legend of Zelda in a class I dropped, so I’m looking forward to any cool things like that next year. That was erratically mentioned, how about we go back to Final Fantasy.

Recently I’ve been listening to Final Fantasy 9 music and finding it to be pretty decent, but not everything I would hope for. I see the directions where it was going, but ehh…not something to make me buy the soundtrack. I thank youtube and other places for the free hearing. That’s all I need really now of these days, not so much the downloading. I’ve been deleting most of my stuff anyways, I don’t find it very enriching to the soul  by having this music on reserve and not even liking 80 percent of the albums/soundtracks. Uhh, what was I talking about again. Final Fantasy! That’s it.

I wanted to choose  a drumming (Drummer’s name is Rafa Quiroga) cover rather than a guitar one, because I honestly don’t want to hear another one unless it’s in person. Youtube has been my hero for game covers, but I want to look for quality covers in person or good recording, not from Youtube’s streaming. I digress.

Like free music? http://trace-of-mechanical-movement.tumblr.com/ Random I know, and completely unrelated. But I like plugging other composers and musicians music if they publicly acknowledge it’s free. Back to the theory books for me.

Shadow Of The Colossus – The Opened Way

Posted by Marcos on September 1, 2009

I give you another video from an Eminence Orchestra performance. This time, we dive into Shadow of The Colossus’s “The Opened Way”, which is a personal favorite from the soundtrack. I take it back, I love everything on the Shadow of The Colossus soundtrack.

I remembered when I used to play Shadow of The Colossus, I would get chills down my spine listening to the music while passing judgment on the colossi. Normally I don’t credit games with that ability, soley because not many has actually done that to me. SOTC was a special case, that game really was something else. It was an honest to goodness masterpiece if I’ve ever seen one. Just got deja vu for a moment here, Ive felt like I wrote this post before, hrm…

I’d like to compose music with that kind of power and emotion its soundtrack emitted during gameplay. Well look at this, it’s almost turnning into a review. Better stop that right now. Enjoy the vid and soak in some good music.

Metal Gear Solid Theme – Eminence Orchestra

Metal Gear Solid Theme
Eminence Orchestra

This arrangement of Metal Gear Solid’s Theme by Eminence Orchestra still sends chills down my spine after 2 years. This is a fine example of why I love the sound of voices intertwined with instruments, and you darn tooten better believe that I will incorporate voices into my works. I just love it!

Oh, and first day of class, this is what happened. Time to hit the books until the break of dawn…even if there’s still light out now.

Class is in Session

Posted by Marcos on August 30, 2009

I start my classes tomorrow, Hurrah!

I’m looking forward to all my classes and practicing even more than I did over the summer, but I’m also feeling a tad on the regretful side for not working on any of my pieces in great extent. So far I don’t see any student concerts, where the compositions of students are performed, which makes me a little bit better seeing none of mine are done. This does leave me a bit disheartened because I was hoping I could hear the composition of other students. Boourns.

I don’t have anything in particular planned for today, this week or month because of classes…so I’m going to begin what I started at Rock The Gaspar and do it here. What’s that? Posting videos of random video game music + related. Here, let me start the series of videos now with this:
