Clock Tower 3 Loves Chopin

Well, maybe just his Impromptu #4 In C Sharp Minor, Op. 66, CT 46, “Fantaisie-Impromptu”. It’s always a pleasure to see Chopin’s pieces included in Video Games, especially when it’s not his Prelude in E minor! You hear this piece about a couple of moments, I believe, after the first ghost encounter of the game. Thankfully, I found a walkthrough video that show’s the piece in action at 4’35“.

The only difference in this version of Chopin’s #4 Impromptu is that at certain point the supposed pianist, whom you learn their identity later on, repeating strikes the wrong note. The performer then begin the piece over again. Regardless, you get this awesome piano piece as your background music for the beginning of this area.

Some cool tidbits about this piece is that Impromptu would never had seen the light of day had it not been for Chopin’s friend, Julian Fontana. It’s believed that Fontana was asked to burn this piece after Chopin’s death because he felt that it resembled Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. Chopin probably wanted to avoid criticism to this and never published it. It wasn’t until six years after his death that Fontana had the piece published as opus 66. It probably took this long because his friend must have put a lot of thought in doing so by disobeying his deceased friend. My thanks to him for not burning such an exciting piece.

It makes you wonder if that there are more pieces by Chopin that was not spared and could have seen the light and performed in piano concerts today. We’ll never really, but we should be thankful for what we do have.

  2. I believe that’s actually my favorite Chopin piece! Though I’m not exactly a Chopin expert or anything, I’ve just always really enjoyed this piece in particular. And an interesting little history lesson, I did not know that story.

  3. It’s a good piece, glad his friend didn’t burn the scores. Yeah, this study isn’t something anyone would know off the top of their head unless they wrote research papers on Chopin, about 16 pages of research to be exact in my case :-p. A game to check out if you want to get the easy roundabout of Chopin’s life while you get to play as him is Eternal Sonata. I assume this game was conjoured up while under the heaviest of spells (high on Opium). Game is so cash.
